A story from Leicestershire Force area from 2014 but arose again this year.
Christy George whilst driving to work used her mobile phone. She was travelling at 70mph. She lost control of her vehicle and collided with an HGV. In the following moments the HGV crossed the central reservation and collided with 6 other vehicles on the opposite carriageway. One man died in the crash.
George had attempted to delete her phone records after the collision.
She denied causing death by dangerous driving but was found guilty and imprisoned.
The case arose again this year as the NMC held a hearing and she was struck off.
The disheartening thing, notwithstanding the wholly preventable loss of life, is that she had previously been convicted of careless driving. The circumstances being that she had reversed into an 8yr old whilst using her phone.
