Thanks for the comment Michael and welcome to DontStreamAndDrive. I agree. The authenticity of the video footage needs to be verifiable and how that is checked, going to be checked will be interesting to see. I’d like to think that several minutes before and after the incident would help. In addition the footage will be capturing the registration numbers of other vehicles that could all be potential witnesses too. I’m sure there will be a few test cases as this process becomes more popular.

As a magistrate we see CCTV footage from many sources all of which are presented by the CPS to assist their case, so why not dash cam footage. My only request would be that all info regarding date time and location can be verified. We would also need to view footage before an after the incident to prove continuity. This could prove a valuable asset to the CPS, lets see it become more common.
